You don't need a fancy studio or expensive editing software to create great sounding audio, but you do need the right tools for the job. That's why we've put together this list of our favorite apps and programs that you can try out for your own editing needs.

Video editing apps for Android and iOS
If you're primarily recording shorter video content using your phone, these apps will work best. For longer videos with music and audio recording, we recommend using a desktop computer.

  • Adobe Premiere Rush: Adobe Premiere is one of the industry-standard professional film editing programs, and the app version is a simplified version with many of the same features.
  • VideoShow
  • Quik: Created by GoPro and designed for their cameras, but it works with any footage. Also available as a desktop program.
  • iMovie (iOS): Built into iOS and very functional.
  • FilmoraGo (Android): One of the best Android-only editing apps.
  • VivaVideo
  • InShot

Video editing programs for Windows, Mac, & Linux
If you have some previous editing experience or would just prefer to edit from a computer, these editing programs are free, fully-featured, and easy to use. Editing on a computer is highly recommended if you're serious about learning to edit videos yourself.

  • Blender: Predominantly used for 3D rendering, Blender can also be used for video editing. It's completely free and open-source.
  • Lightworks (Available as free and paid versions): The free version includes everything a beginner would need; the paid version simply includes additional features for professional film editors.
  • DaVinci Resolve (Available as free and paid versions): Just like Lightworks, DaVinci Resolve is available in a fully-featured free version or as a paid version that includes all of the bells and whistles. Thankfully, the free version includes everything you need.
  • Shotcut: A basic program allow you to cut, and do fade ins and fade outs.

Audio recording and editing programs
For recording and editing audio, we recommend the following tools.

  • Audacity (Windows): Very handy sound editor and mixer. Lots of features and helpful for making changes just to your audio.
  • Garage Band (Mac): The quintessential all-in-one audio solution for Mac users.
