When a payment is made with a credit card, and then a cardholder contacts the card-issuing bank to dispute the payment to get their money back, it is called a chargeback.

Chargebacks are an essential tool to help customers reclaim their money from a fraudulent or bad business, but chargebacks can happen to honest businesses, too. In fact, any business that accepts credit card or bank account details can and probably will encounter a chargeback at some time. Chargebacks are a normal part of accepting payments and you may be able to resolve disputes directly with the customer in most cases.
